What Is a Registered Medical Device? UTS, EUDAMED & FDA
A registered medical device meets strict regulatory standards. Learn what UTS and EUDAMED registration means for CranioWell products and why it matters for your baby.

Quick answer: A registered medical device is one that has been evaluated by regulatory authorities, verified for safety and efficacy, and added to official medical device databases (UTS in Turkey, EUDAMED in Europe, 510(k)/PMA in the US). CranioWell's HKM Pro cranial remodelling helmet and ear moulding set are registered in both the UTS and EUDAMED databases.
A registered medical device is a medical product that has been submitted to an official regulatory body (in Turkey the Ministry of Health, in Europe the European Commission, in the US the FDA), undergone defined safety and performance tests, and received approval to be placed on the market. The key point is this: a product that has not been registered cannot legally be sold as a medical device.
This requirement exists to protect patient safety. Products that claim to treat a medical condition without proper registration may not have been tested for safety or efficacy, and could potentially cause harm.
UTS (Medical Device Tracking System) is a database operated by the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TÜFAM) that records all medical devices legally sold in Turkey. Every medical device sold in Turkey must be registered in the UTS database.
When a device is registered in UTS, it means:
CranioWell’s cranial remodelling helmet (HKM Pro) and ear moulding set are registered in the UTS database.
EUDAMED (European Database on Medical Devices) is the EU’s central database for medical devices, managed by the European Commission. Under the EU Medical Devices Regulation (MDR 2017/745), all manufacturers must register their products in EUDAMED before placing them on the European market.
EUDAMED registration provides:
CranioWell products are registered in EUDAMED, meaning they meet European safety and performance standards.
In the United States, medical devices are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Depending on the risk classification, devices must go through 510(k) clearance or Premarket Approval (PMA) before being marketed in the US. FDA registration is separate from UTS or EUDAMED registration and is required only for products sold in the US market.
As a parent, when you choose a cranial remodelling helmet or ear moulding device for your baby, registration status is one of the most important factors to consider. A registered device:
Unregistered products that are promoted as medical devices — including some helmets or taping products sold online — may not have undergone any of these evaluations.
CranioWell Orthopaedic Centre products are developed at Hacettepe Teknokent R&D facilities and hold Turkish Patent registration. Both the cranial remodelling helmet (HKM Pro) and the ear moulding corrector set are registered in:
3D scanning technology is used in the production of CranioWell cranial helmets, allowing each device to be custom-fitted to the individual baby’s head measurements.
Yes. You can search the UTS database for Turkish registrations, and the EUDAMED public search for European registrations. For FDA, use the FDA 510(k) database.
Registration confirms that the manufacturer has submitted required technical documentation and the device meets defined safety standards. Clinical efficacy evidence is part of the documentation, but registration is not an independent clinical trial endorsement.
From a regulatory and safety standpoint, yes. Registration means independent review of safety data. Unregistered devices sold as medical products are operating outside the legal framework and their safety has not been independently verified.
